Last night, voters in Bridgeport rejected a proposed charter change that would have restructured the city's Board of Education.
The defeat came after months of back-and-forth discussions between supporters, including Mayor Bill Finch, and opponents who've argued the entire debate boils down to voting rights.
At issue was a city charter review question designed to give the mayor power to appoint members to the Board of Education.
Supporters of the ballot question, including Mayor Bill Finch, say the measure would have ended years of deadlock and indecision in city schools.
