Connecticut’s severe cold weather protocol will remain in effect until next Tuesday as warming centers open across parts of the state.
Doctors say to bundle up and wear a lot of layers because prolonged exposure can cause severely chapped skin that can lead to an infection.
Frostbite can cause permanent damage to the nose, ears, toes and fingers.
Doctors say if you can't feel parts of your body, it means you're not getting blood flow to the area and need to warm up.
Anyone in need of a warming center can call 211 for help.
