Danbury police continue to search for a missing food delivery driver whose car was found engulfed in flames just over the New York border.
"We're quite concerned something may have happened to him," Det. Lt. Mark Williams told News 12.
Carlos Reyes, 20, was last seen by his family the night of March 28. Williams said a family member talked to him the following morning, but there's been no contact since. That night, before Reyes' family even contacted police, his car was found on fire in Brewster, NY. Police said it was a gray 2018 four-door Infiniti sedan.
His family filed a missing persons report on March 31 after getting worried they hadn't heard from him.
"It's unusual for his character to go without contacting his family and friends," Williams said.
Police said Reyes was a DoorDash driver and driver-for-hire, known to spend time in Danbury, Waterbury, and Naugatuck. They extensively searched the area around where his car was found but said there were no signs of Reyes.
Last Thursday Police executed search warrants at a home and surrounding property on Ball Pond Road near Pondcrest Road. Police didn't say how Reyes was connected to the resident. Officers were also seen checking out the nearby pond, along with storm drains.
"They were able to recover some video surveillance footage and some other items associated with the missing person but that was the extent of it," Williams told News 12. "I can't go into detail on the other items as it is an ongoing investigation."
Williams also said Reyes was not known to the department until he disappeared. They don't know if something happened to him while he was working.
"Investigators are keeping everything open at this point in time. They're not honed in on any one thing, but they're sorting through everything they have to try to determine what were the circumstances around him being missing," Williams said.
Reyes is described as 5'10", 170 lbs., with a fit build, brown eyes, brown hair and facial hair. Police said he has piercings in both ears and no tattoos. Reyes was wearing black sweatpants, a black sweater and red "Ugg" slippers when he was last seen. He regularly wears three gold chains around his neck, each having a gold pendant.
