A 25-year-old West Haven mother was seriously injured and a six-year-old boy hurt after their car lost control and crashed into a tree in Orange, police say.
The incident happened Wednesday on Racebrook Road in Orange near the Woodbridge town line around 10 p.m.
Police say the woman's 2008 Toyota Rav4 was traveling southbound on Route 114 at a high rate of speed when it crossed the center line into the northbound lane and crashed into a tree.
The woman was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, police say.
A 6-year-old boy was also inside the car at the time of the crash, but officials say he walked away with only a bump on the head and a bloody lip.

Police say the woman underwent surgery at the hospital.
Investigators have not released the woman's identity.
