When Westport Fire Chief Robert Yost saw the destruction
from wildfires out west, he knew exactly what he had to do.
Chief Yost spent 14 days helping fight the wildfire at
Cameron Peak in Colorado. He says his division of more than 800 firefighters
helped protect homes and the University of Colorado’s mountain campus.
According to Yost, the crew’s work included setting up
pumps, sprinklers and bulldozer lines. Yost says working on the Connecticut
Interstate Wildfire crew is humbling his most recent experience was like being
an army entrapped within a war.
"Each of us had a role, each of us had a job. It was a
well-orchestrated, choreographed machine,” he told News 12.
