The Westport community is mourning the death of a veteran firefighter who lost his fight with cancer.
Turk Aksoy died Friday from colon cancer. When the doctors diagnosed him with stage four cancer five years ago, they said he had only three years to live
The 46-year-old's aggressive treatments late last year made it impossible to work. His illness was deemed "occupational cancer" caused by exposures to chemicals encountered while on the job.
Aksoy's wife died unexpectedly died on his birthday last January. At the time, a GoFundMe page was set up and raised $18,000 to support Aksoy and his two children.
A new GoFundMe page has been set up to support Aksoy's family.
