Westport police: 2 charged in home copper theft
Police say two people were caught trying to steal copper from a home that's still under construction in an upscale Westport neighborhood. Investigators say a neighbor on Stony Brook Road called in the tip last night after seeing lights and hearing loud banging at around 10 p.m.
Police say 49-year-old Christoper Rodia and 19-year-old Cassandre Scire had stripped large pieces of copper flashing from the roof. The two had a carload of copper and had stolen a power saw worth about $1,200, according to police. Officials say Rodia was also carrying Oxycodone pills in a plastic bag. Both suspects are now facing several charges, including larceny, criminal mischief and trespassing. Rodia was charged with narcotics possession as well, police say.
Police would not comment on the nature of the relationship between the two suspects, but say they do live together.
