What's Ailing You: Ice Bucket Challenge
This week's "What's Ailing You" looks at how the funds from the Ice Bucket Challenge are being used to combat Lou Gehrig's disease.
Mike Burke, executive director of the ALS Association Connecticut Chapter, says the national office took in $115 million through the social media phenomenon. According to Burke, $77 million of that has been dedicated to research. They are looking at other ways to use the balance.
Locally, the Connecticut chapter took in $140,000. Burke says that money was invested in care service programs.
"We're able to double the money we spend building ramps for folks, providing respite care and sending social workers out and providing rides for patients," says Burke.
