Witnesses: Man shot at Newark bodega
Police are on the scene at a popular bodega in Newark after a possible shooting.
Police are being tight-lipped about what exactly they are investigating at Azcona, but witnesses have told News 12 that there was a shooting there earlier Sunday evening.
Several witnesses who asked not to be on camera for fear of retaliation told News 12 they heard shots fired just before 7 p.m.
They said it appeared a male was shot in the bodega on the 300 block of 6th Avenue West.  They said the victim seemed responsive and was eventually taken away in an ambulance.
News 12 has learned that the bodega is family-owned, and has been in the community for well over 20 years.
It closed down late last year due to a fire, but they recently reopened the bodega a few months ago. Sources tell News 12 that two brothers are currently running the business, but it is unclear if one of the men is the victim.
