Woman charged after dog was left in filthy crate
Stamford police say a woman is facing animal cruelty charges after her dog was found in a crate full of feces.
Police say the Stamford Fire Department and a landlord discovered the dog during an inspection in January, but were unable to arrest 32-year-old Summer Parkman because she is often traveling.
Police say the 3-year-old bulldog was found malnourished in a small, dirty crate.
They say Animal Control then brought the dog to the veterinarian. It is suspected the animal may have been left alone for weeks.
"The owner of the dog appeared to be out of town and apparently left the dog in the crate," says Lt. Nicholas Montagnese. "I believe she probably had someone to come by once in a while to feed the dog because there was some food in the crate, but the crate was never cleaned."
Officials say Parkman turned herself in on Wednesday and was released on a promise to appear in court.
