The Hunts Point Terminal Produce Market is suing the city and a major food distributor. However, a lawyer for the merchants may now find his words coming back to haunt him.

According to the Daily News, the produce co-op merchants had hoped to submit the winning bid on the lease for city-owned land outside the market to expand their businesses. But, the city recently submitted court papers that state the merchants? lawyer, Randy Mastro, was highly critical of the market a decade ago. Mastro had served as former Mayor Giuliani?s chief of staff. According to the court papers, Mastro testified before a City Council that the market had a history of mob activity.

The Daily News reports Mastro has since issued a statement saying he has worked hard over the past decade to get legislation passed to improve the city?s public wholesale markets. He calls the reforms that occurred in Hunts Point a great success.
