Worker charged in death of disgraced plastic surgeon
Police have charged a pool maintenance worker with manslaughter in the death of a former Greenwich plastic surgeon.
According to police, 46-year-old Ian Rubins was found unconscious at the east side home of Leonard Bajramaj. Police say intravenous drugs were discovered at the scene. Rubins later died at Stamford Hospital. Hours later, police arrested Bajramaj and charged him in connection to Rubins? death.
Police say Bajramaj provided the drugs that led to Rubins? death and did not summon for medical help in a timely manner.
Last May, Rubins was fired from Greenwich Hospital after colleagues claimed they saw him getting high before entering surgery, derailing his highly successful career as a plastic surgeon.
After giving up his medical license, Rubins also found he was losing his family. Divorce proceedings from his wife of 21 years started in the fall, as did a custody battle for his three children. The divorce battle included many high-priced items such as a yacht, plane and property.
Rubins? lawyer says the man accused in his client's death wasn't just an employee, he was a friend of the family. Police are investigating the relationship between the Bajmaraj and Rubins' wife. An autopsy is being conducted to determine the exact cause of Rubins? death.
