Students at Foran High School in Milford received a special lesson in world history.
Instead of reading from a textbook, the freshman class learned about World War II from a primary source - retired U.S. Army Capt. James Morgia.
The Bridgeport native, now 100 years old, told News 12 he was 22 when he led 150 soldiers during the Battle of the Bulge.
"What we had to do was figure out how to stay alive from the Germans and all their trickery," Morgia remembered.
The Silver and Bronze Star recipient was invited to speak with students ahead of Memorial Day.
"Not only is it timely in what the ninth-grade students are studying in the context of their class, but I think it's really timely in the leadup to Memorial Day and making them be appreciative of the sacrifices that have been made for them by previous generations," teacher Cindy Bradford said.
