Connecticut officials confirmed 47 more cases of swine flu Thursday, 15 of which are at Western Middle School in Greenwich.
On Wednesday night, parents of Western Middle School students were told it was likely more students, possibly as much as one-quarter of the student body could get sick. In total, 26 students at the school have confirmed cases.
While some parents are calling for the school to be shut down temporarily, Superintendent Betty Sternberg told parents Wednesday night that shutting the school down wouldn't do much good. She said so far the virus has been mild and kids who do show flu-like symptoms are being sent home.
Absentee rates at Western Middle School have hovered around 50 percent since last Friday, after the first confirmed case was announced. On Thursday, slightly fewer students were absent, but some parents expect fewer to return to class due to the latest announcement.
The school district said in a release that all classes for Friday are on schedule.
