A couple anonymously donated 160 poinsettia plants to a New Canaan nonprofit that helps senior citizens in an effort to brighten Christmas during the pandemic.
The work of the New Canaan nonprofit Staying Put is more important now than ever amid the pandemic when it comes to the seniors they help, officials say. Staying Put Executive Director Barbara Achenbaum says the organization was happy to accept the flowers.
"When they arrived, the room that we had that they stored them in, it was just so gorgeous, it was just all red," Achenbaum says.
Staying Put recruited a few organizations, including the National Charity League, the Young Women's League, and Au Pairs in America, to write out greeting cards.
Some volunteers even baked cookies to accompany the flowers, which were distributed to seniors around town.
