Pumpkin Delight Elementary School in Milford is getting a $16 million major renovation.
Milford Public Schools says the school was built in 1949 and the project is the first major renovation the school has had since the 1950s.
Officials say the renovation project will include building a new multipurpose room which will function as both a gym and cafeteria.
A new kitchen area with storage space, and a new science classroom will also be built.
Officials say the current multipurpose room will be converted into a new media center.
The former media center will be converted into bathrooms.
There will also be a new secured vestibule system with a greeter station.
Officials say the project is expected to take 16 to 18 months and is expected to be completed in the fall of 2024.
Officials say students and staff are expected to stay inside of the building this year.
