Eighteen People's United bank branches are closing in Connecticut following a merger, the company has announced.
Of the 18 locations, People's Bank on Greenwich Avenue in Greenwich and a branch in Westport on the Post Road will both close.
The branches will close between December 2019 and April 2020.
Jack Barnes, CEO of People's United Bank, wrote in a statement that, "The result will be a thoughtfully integrated branch network that has been optimized to eliminate overlap and deliver our combined customers continued convenient access to a People's United branch."
Barnes says that in addition to traditional branches, United customers will have access to in-store Stop & Shop branches across Connecticut, which offer full-service, extended-hour banking seven days a week.
People's Bank says statewide mobile banking will not be affected.
