Stamford police praised two of their own for their role in saving a man's life after he had a heart attack Monday.
The 64-year-old man was playing golf at the Sterling Farms course with his son when he went into cardiac arrest.
A third golfer saw the man struggling and offered him a ride back to the clubhouse in his cart. The victim lost consciousness during the ride.
Lt. Tom Scanlon was on a routine patrol at the time, and happened to be driving through the parking lot.
Scanlon says he radioed for an ambulance and began CPR on the unconscious golfer. He also used a portable defibrillator that the golf course kept on hand.
Officer Frank Laccona was also on patrol nearby, and responded to Scanlon's call for assistance.
Laccona says the man regained his pulse after a second shock from the defibrillator.
EMS arrived soon after that, and rushed the man to Stamford Hospital, where we underwent tests.
The two officers credit the golfer who drove the victim in his cart for helping save his life. They also say it was fortunate the golf course had a defibrillator.
