Wilton Police Lts. David Hartman and Robert Kluk have gone above and beyond for the Special Olympics Connecticut, specifically to the tallest peak in Africa.
The two are part of a law enforcement team that just climbed Mount Kilimanjaro. Their mission was to raise money and awareness for the organization they've been involved with for years.
Special events coordinator Taryn Prostano says it took the 12-member group five days to arrive at the summit, which they did Sunday, and two to come back down.
The trek to reach new heights was more than a year in the making. News 12 spoke with Hartman and Kluk in October about their training.
Along with work-outs, the two also spent several months fundraising. Prostano says altogether the law enforcement team has raised close to $160,000 dollars.
The officers come home next week and donations are still rolling in for them.
