Gov. Dannel Malloy says nearly 2,000 state jobs may be eliminated to help cut spending.
He says the layoffs will likely be necessary after one of the largest state employee unions refused to discuss possible pension and benefit concessions.
The governor had suggested possible benefit cutbacks to help reduce Connecticut's looming budget deficit.
Without those concessions, he says 1,900 jobs may have to be eliminated before June 9 to help cut spending.
