Davenport Avenue residents in Greenwich say they have nowhere to park on their street

Some people have driveways with clearly defined parking rules, others don't and are left to fend for themselves when people who don't live on the street park on the street.

Residents of Davenport Avenue in Greenwich say they struggle with parking on their own street and say the parking situation has recently gotten out of control.

Sara Arlotti has lived on the block for 10 years and says it's been a problem the whole time because they're not far from the Metro-North station, the Bruce Museum, a hotel and a park.

“When people who want to use our street to park for the train station or for events, which can happen on a daily basis, then our residents don't have any place to park,” said Arlotti.

Some people have driveways with clearly defined parking rules, others don't and are left to fend for themselves when people who don't live on the street park on the street.

The only other parking in the area is metered parking.

Greenwich has a residential parking permit program, but Davenport Avenue is not on the list. Residents say they have been trying to change that since last year.

"Obviously you've got to be very careful when you put neighborhoods into this program, but certainly they have some arguments in their favor," Greenwich First Selectman Fred Camillo says. “You don't want everyone applying for it because it wouldn't work.”

At a recent Board of Selectmen meeting, resident Lisa Pasternak clarified that they don't want the street turned into a private road.

“We're not even talking about an issue where people are trying to park in front of their homes. This is a matter of not being able to park on the street at all,” said Pasternak.
