State officials say a female guard was assaulted by a male inmate inside the Bridgeport Correctional Center facility last week.

A spokesperson for the department of corrections tells News 12 that the guard was performing her routine duties when the inmate shoved her into a metal storage bin and attacked her.

The guard was taken to the hospital and is now recovering at home from her injuries.

The names of the inmate and the corrections officer have not been released.
