Police say officers also helped bring a vessel to safety Sunday after it lost power.
Then in Stamford, another boat ran aground near Smith’s Reef Sunday. Firefighters say they brought one person in for a medical issue — their condition is not known.
In light of these incidents, here are a few reminders from first responders when it comes to boating safety.
You must have a life jacket for every person onboard.
Life jackets must be worn by children under 13, unless below deck or in a cabin.
You should also have a throwable device, flares and a fire extinguisher handy.
It's also a good idea to have a VHF radio.
