Stratford doctor honored on World Humanitarian Day

In honor of World Humanitarian Day on Saturday, a Stratford doctor was honored for his work with HIV and AIDS.

Dr. Gary Blick is the chief medical officer at Health Care Advocates International.

The nonprofit works to reduce morbidity and mortality related to HIV and STIs by fighting against stigma and discrimination and working to end homelessness.

He also co-founded HIV Advocates and is the founder of the Zimbabwe AIDS Project, all with the goal of destigmatizing HIV globally.

Sen. Richard Blumenthal tells News 12 Blick is champion for public health at home and aboard.

"As the United Nations honors humanitarians around the world, I am so humbled to honor Dr. Gary Blick who embodies the spirit of giving and care that makes this day so special and his service so extraordinary to Mankind," says Blumenthal.

Blick says he is honored to receive the recognition and hopes it will help him expand his advocacy work for the LGBTQ+ community.

World Humanitarian Day was established in 2009 by the U.N. recognize humanitarian personnel worldwide.
