The Wilton Democratic Town Committee announced on Sunday that it is leaving the social media site X, formerly known as Twitter, over a recent antisemitic tweet owner Elon Musk appeared to agree with.

The user accused Jewish people of hating white people and professed a general indifference to antisemitism. “You have said the actual truth,” Musk tweeted in a reply Wednesday.

IBM, Disney and other major advertisers have since pulled funding from X, a major blow as the platform tries to win back big brands and ad dollars that makeup its main source of revenue.

The DTC also joins Connecticut Attorney General Tong in calling it quits with the app.

Wilton DTC Chair Tom Dubin released the following statement:

"We recognize that social media companies face challenges in balancing free expression versus hate speech that cripples free expression. But when a site's owner trumpets his anti-semitism and demonstrates that he is not committed to achieving such balance, it does not deserve support."

The post has also drawn criticism from the White House, where spokesperson Andrew Bates said last week that, “It is unacceptable to repeat the hideous lie behind the most fatal act of antisemitism in American history at any time, let alone one month after the deadliest day for the Jewish people since the Holocaust.”

That referred to Hamas' deadly attack on Israel, which occurred on Oct. 7.
