Fairfield's first Chick-Fil-A will be opening on Dec. 7 on the Post Road.

But unlike many locations, this one, despite being located on one of the busiest stretches of the road, will not have a drive-thru.

Two years ago, Fairfield's Planning and Zoning Commission denied the fast food chain's proposal due to traffic concerns.

The original proposal was to demolish the former Joe's American Bar and Grill at 750 Post Road to build a drive-thru, but that plan faced widespread opposition.

As a comprise, the owners received a permit to renovate the building's interior and proceed without the drive-thru.

Police say to expect a large crowd on opening day but that the new plan should lessen concerns about traffic.

"There will be no drive-thru, which should help with the traffic flow on to the Post Road. Chick-fil-A has been doing this, they're going to have their experts working with our experts, and we're going to have clear-cut signs, so we're just asking that when you show up and visit - enjoy the food and pay attention to the signs," says Lt. Ed Nook.

The signs will direct people westbound from exit 23 to avoid left hand turns into and out of the restaurant.

The location will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday though Saturday.
