After months of debate, officials in Fairfield voted unanimously Tuesday night not to go forward with a plan to open a Chick-Fil-A on Post Road.
The proposal pitted fans of the food chain against residents who worried about the potential traffic the eatery could have brought to the area.
The eatery would have been located on what residents say is a very busy stretch of Route 1 between Black Rock Bridgeport and Downtown Fairfield.
Developers emphasized that their design could handle double the traffic of the store in Norwalk, but after the lengthy debate, the Town Plan and Zoning Commission voted against the plan.
During the meeting, the commission suggested a different design could be successful.
The developers do have an opportunity to file an appeal.
