Gov. Ned Lamont ordered flags to half-staff on Tuesday, to honor of U.S Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor.

On Monday, President Joe Biden directed flags throughout the United States to be lowered as a mark of respect for the memory of O'Connor.

Gov. Lamont says flags in Connecticut will remain at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Tuesday, Dec. 19.

A funeral service honoring Justice O'Connor is scheduled to be held on Tuesday at the Washington National Cathedral in Washington, D.C.

"Justice O'Connor broke barriers and leaves behind a legacy that will forever be an inspiration," Gov. Lamont said. "Through her public service both as a legislator and a judge, she was unwavering in her commitment to protecting the rights we cherish as Americans and building a justice system that works for all. My prayers are with her family and loved ones at this difficult time."
