Bridgeport police ramp up patrols following shooting that sent 4 to hospital

Bridgeport Police increased patrols on Monday night following a shooting that sent four people to the hospital.
Authorities told News 12 that what happened at the corner of Main Street and Fairfield Avenue in broad daylight Sunday was an isolated incident, and they’ve already made progress in their investigation.
On Sunday afternoon, Bridgeport police responded to a two-car accident where shots were fired.

Police say there were two gunshot wound victims. They say one has been treated and released. Authorities said the other victim is still recovering.
A vehicle that police believe is involved in the shooting was found nearby on Wilcox Street.
Bridgeport Police Chief Roderick Porter says he’s been in contact with the downtown business district about what happened, and he's reiterating the city’s commitment to keeping downtown safe.
“We’ve had some incidents downtown, unfortunately, the last couple of years. Mainly those occur in the evenings, but we’ve increased our presence down there quite a bit,” Porter said. “We have ongoing communications with not only downtown residents but our downtown businesses. So, for this to happen this time of day on a Sunday afternoon is somewhat uncommon.”
Officials said two Naugatuck women injured in the crash have been released from the hospital.
Authorities say they have promising leads and expect to make an arrest in the case soon.
“This is not something that is accepted in Bridgeport and we’re going to do our best to eradicate stuff like this from happening in the city of Bridgeport,” said Porter.
