A man who pleaded guilty to a 2020 fatal shooting in Bridgeport was sentenced Tuesday to 35 years in prison.

Daron Jones, 31, was fatally shot on Worth Street. His family spoke with News 12 Connecticut's Frank Recchia after Jarrel Baker, 36, was sentenced.

"My state of mind today is getting some type of closure for Jarrel Baker who murdered my son Daron Jones,” said Darryl Jones. "He's just a bad person, period. He does not deserve to be on the streets.”

The judge also sentenced Baker to serve five years of special parole, which means his release will be supervised by the State Parole Board.

Baker pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter with a firearm as the case was about to go to trial.
