A Connecticut congressman has reportedly called for President Joe Biden to drop out of the 2024 presidential race, but Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D) says Biden has his support.
The Associated Press reports Rep. Jim Himes made the suggestion during a House Democratic leadership call. Biden has faced calls to step aside following his debate performance two weeks ago.
"As the democratic candidate right now, President Biden has my support, and I would say, most of my colleagues," Blumenthal said.
Biden sent a letter to congressional Democrats vowing to stay in the race, saying it's time for party infighting "to end."
