State police cruiser struck on I-95 in Westport; troopers urge drivers to ‘slow down, move over’
Trooper Galej was not injured as a result, but elected officials and state police are urging motorists to be extra cautious on roadways.

Connecticut State Police say a trooper’s cruiser was struck Saturday while responding to a crash on I-95 in Westport.
Just after 3 a.m. Trooper Galej was in his cruiser in the left lane with emergency lights on. That’s when a 2015 Kia Sorrento traveling in the same lane failed to slow down or move over, striking the rear of the parked cruiser.
Galej was outside of the car at the time of the crash and wasn’t hurt.
Sonny Abdul-Hardy, 47, was treated on-scene by Norwalk EMS for minor injuries.
Both vehicles were damaged and towed from the scene.
Abdul-Hardy was issued an infraction for failing to drive a reasonable distance apart, resulting in a motor vehicle accident and failing to move over for emergency vehicles.
In May, Trooper First Class Aaron Pelletier was killed in a hit and run while in the line of duty on I-84 in Southington. One month later, a DOT worker was killed while working on the shoulder of the Wharton Brook Connector of I-91 in Wallingford. Andrew DiDomenico, of Meriden, was 26 years old.
State police and elected officials are urging motorists to use extra caution when approaching police, fire, EMS, DOT vehicles and tow trucks. State law requires drivers to slow down and move over for stationary emergency vehicles on the highway.
