A 20-person interstate firefighting crew has been deployed to help suppress wildfires in Alaska.

Eighteen of the firefighters are from Connecticut.

Friday's deployment marks the team's first assignment of this wildfire season.

As of the latest update, more than 216 active wildfires were burning across Alaska.
