Westport's First Selectwoman Jen Tooker said Friday that she is suspending her campaign for governor.

In a Facebook post, the Republican said it was clear that "voters needed more time to get to know me, and I need more time to get to know them."

Tooker also said the "state needs a leader with a vision that ensures that our best days are ahead of us. That is what I offered voters in this race. Although I am suspending my candidacy for governor, I have every intention to remain in the fight for our state's future on the ballot in 2026."

Tooker announced she was running in March. At the time, she said her plan to create a stronger Connecticut included lowering taxes and energy costs.
