1 person injured in Stamford New Year's Eve shooting

One person was injured in a shooting in Stamford on New Year's Eve.

It happened around 9 p.m. Wednesday in the area of Strawberry Hill Court near the Tully Center.

Raymond Downey, 68, was walking away from the area carrying a black handgun. Police say he fired the gun multiple times in different places in that area.

Officers say they heard a man yelling who had been shot.

The victim was shot in the hand and transported to Stamford Hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.

Downey put down the gun after refusing to comply with officers, according to police.

Multiple crime scene locations with shell casings were identified throughout the area.

Downey is being charged with assault in the first degree, reckless endangerment, unlawful discharge of a firearm and breach of peace.
