Working smoke detectors are being credited with saving a Fairfield family from a late-night house fire, according to officials.
The fire was reported just after 11:30 p.m. Monday at a home on Figlar Avenue, after flames broke out in the living room.
Firefighters arrived within minutes and found heavy fire coming from multiple windows, with flames pushing toward the second floor.
Officials say the fast and coordinated response prevented the fire from reaching second-floor bedrooms, saving an estimated $232,000 in property.
All occupants safely escaped before firefighters arrived.
One chief officer suffered a minor injury that did not require hospital transport.
Fire officials noted one occupant had been sleeping directly above the room where the fire started, emphasizing that properly placed and functioning smoke detectors played a critical role in saving lives.
