Gov. Lamont to activate Severe Cold Weather Protocol as snowstorm bears down on Connecticut

Gov. Ned Lamont announced that he will activate Connecticut's Severe Cold Weather Protocol as the major snowstorm makes it's impact on the state on Sunday.
The protocol will go into effect at noon and remain until at least noon on Tuesday.
The purpose of the Severe Cold Weather Protocol is "to ensure that the most vulnerable populations receive protection from the severe cold, which could be life threatening if exposed to the elements for extended periods of time."
A system will also be set for state agencies to coordinate with United Way 2-1-1 and the state's network of shelters to ensure all people in need have access to shelters.
Officials urge anyone in need of shelter or warming center to visit 211ct.org or call 2-1-1 to find available locations.
Lamont also urged residents to prepare for the snowstorm.
He said the state fleet of snowplows are ready and urged that residents should stay off the roads.
He said to delay travel, adding that staying home is the safest option.
Lamont advised those out on the roadways to slow down and allow extra time to stop on snowy roads.
He asked motorists to leave extra space between them and the vehicle in front, especially if it's a snow plow.
