Fairfield University students got a behind-the-scenes look at how the news is covered thanks to a familiar face Monday night.

News 12's Mark Sudol spoke on a panel called "Reporting on Power, Politics and Policy." The event was part of a collaboration between Political Science Professor Dr. Gayle Alberda and the school's student newspaper, "The Fairfield Mirror."

Sudol and three other political reporters talked about covering the news and politics.

Students learned the steps necessary to take a story from an idea to its final product, the research involved and the team effort behind it.

"Knowing that it's not just click, send. Or send to the printers or you're on air. That's a piece of it, but that's the final step in the process. So having an understanding of what it takes to not only report on your story but also find your story and build those connections along the way," says Kathleen Morris, a senior and the editor-in-chief of The Mirror.
