A fundraiser promotion shown during a New York Islanders game has drawn criticism after it highlighted a convicted police officer from Mahopac.
During Tuesday's game, the Islanders displayed a QR code on the arena jumbotron urging fans to donate to the legal defense fund of former NYPD Officer Erik Duran.
Duran, who is from Mahopac, was sentenced to prison last week for killing a man while working undercover three years ago.
Prosecutors said Duran targeted the wrong person and struck the victim, who was riding a motorcycle, with a cooler.
Duran's attorney has said plans are in place to appeal the sentence.
The New York Islanders said they are not commenting on the fundraiser promotion.
