A motor vehicle stop for a minor equipment violation led to the arrest of a Paterson man after he allegedly tried to sell counterfeit electronics to the very officers who pulled him over.

The Fairfield Police Department announced the arrest of 23-year-old Xzavier Brown following an incident on the night of Friday, April 17, 2026.

At approximately 9:22 p.m., Police stopped a 2005 Saturn Ion for equipment violations. During the stop, Officer Cleary noticed several packaged Apple products sitting in the back seat of the vehicle.

When questioned about the items, Brown reportedly claimed he sold the "real" products at a discount as a side business. The situation escalated when a second officer arrived to assist. According to police, Brown allegedly offered to sell Officer Reynolds a pair of Apple AirPods for $50.

Officers became suspicious when Brown could not provide any proof of purchase for the merchandise. A closer inspection of the 26 items found in the vehicle revealed several "dead giveaways" that the electronics were fakes, like every single box had the exact same serial number printed on it and packaging errors

Brown was arrested at the scene and the merchandise was seized as evidence. He has been charged with selling or attempting to sell counterfeit items.
