Connecticut is marking Mental Health Awareness Month.

Gov. Ned Lamont joined top psychiatrists at the State Capitol Tuesday to highlight progress and challenges in mental-health care.

“For many of the people that I serve, it really is about the ability to wake up and feel like your life still belongs to you,” Gov. Lamont said.

Last year, he signed a new mental-health parity law. For the first time, insurance carriers can face fines if mental-health coverage is not on par with other medical treatments — a step advocates say strengthens insurance parity and access to care.
