The U.S. Department of State has issued a worldwide caution warning, urging Americans to have increased vigilance while traveling or living abroad due to the heightened tensions in the Middle East.
In a notice issued on Saturday, the agency said the global security environment remains complex and there is a potential for "unforeseen escalation."
Officials say the ongoing tensions in the region could lead to travel disruptions, including flight cancellations and periodic airspace closures.
The advisory encourages Americans, particularly those in the Middle East, to closely monitor news reports and follow security guidance issued by the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate.
The State Department said U.S. diplomatic facilities, both inside and outside the Middle East, have previously been targeted. Officials also warned that groups supportive of Iran could target U.S. interests overseas or locations associated with Americans around the world.
The agency urged U.S. citizens traveling internationally to review destination-specific travel advisories and recent security alerts before departing.
