Weekend deluge drowns out concert in New Jersey
Flooding forced cancellations at PNC Bank Arts Center and the Stone Pony.
Not even “Africa” could stop the rains down in Holmdel, as downpours forced Toto, The Romantics and Christopher Cross to cancel their concert at PNC Bank Arts Center over the weekend.
Strong storms and heavy rain affected much of New Jersey on Saturday, causing flooding at the arts center in Holmdel. Some areas in Monmouth County, such as Spring Lake Heights, saw more than 3 inches of rain. In a message on Facebook, Toto posted video of the production office on the lower level of PNC Bank Arts Center. The video shows water rushing in from the ceiling, flooding the floor of what appears to be an office.
“We were praying this would blow over. We’ll get back to Holmdel as fast as we possibly can. This was downstairs in the production office at PNC,” the band said.
The Romantics also posted video showing water rushing into the seated area and toward the stage at the concert venue.
“A crazy, rainy day that just would not stop! Hoping to get back to Holmdel, NJ, for a makeup,” The Romantics said on social media.
The bands have not yet announced when they will return to Holmdel, but both have indicated plans to come back to New Jersey.
