Wilton police are urging residents to take precautions following an increase in vehicle thefts and break-ins.
The department released surveillance video showing a person checking car doors in a neighborhood.
Authorities say residents can reduce their chances of becoming a target by locking their vehicles and taking keys and key fobs inside. Police also warn drivers never to leave key fobs inside their vehicles.
Officials recommend removing valuables from cars or keeping them out of sight.
Police say taking a few extra seconds to secure a vehicle can help prevent theft.
