A new report is putting one Connecticut city in the national spotlight for all the wrong reasons.
The Consumer Affairs Journal of Consumer Research ranks Waterbury as the worst city in the country for DUI-related deaths.
According to the report, Waterbury had the highest rate of DUI fatalities nationwide, with 9.5 deaths per 100,000 residents.
The city also recorded the nation's highest rate of fatal crashes involving drivers with a positive blood alcohol content, at 8.7 deaths per 100,000 residents.
Waterbury was the only city in the Northeast to rank among the 45 worst cities in the report.
Memphis, Tennessee, and Baton Rouge, Louisiana, rounded out the top three spots on the list.
The report examined traffic safety data and impaired-driving fatalities to compare driving conditions across cities nationwide.
