IBM's work in quantum computing and technology was highlighted during a tour Friday.

The Thomas J. Watson Research Center has been in Yorktown Heights for years. This is where officials inside say technical breakthroughs have happened in things like quantum computing.

"It doesn't necessarily have to mean people are directly using a quantum computer. They are getting the benefit of these tools becoming available to scientists around the world," says Oliver Dial, an IBM fellow and the vice president of Quantum Systems at IBM Research.

Rep. Mike Lawler and U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick visited the facility on Friday. They talked about how important the work happening there is, especially for the Hudson Valley and the future.

"This is a critical, important investment both in terms of the research and development in manufacturing but also the jobs," says Lawler.

"We want quantum to be built here in America. You can't have a manufacturing renaissance unless you build it here," says Lutnick.
