A Connecticut family is facing a double layer of heartbreak after the man accused of killing an 81-year-old great-grandmother in a hit-and-run last summer was released on bond just days after his arrest.

For the past year, Angelica Pagan has kept a steady vigil, lighting candles at the corner of Maplewood and Park avenues in Bridgeport.

The intersection marks the spot where her mother, Angela Pagan, was struck and killed on July 13, 2025.

The yearlong investigation reached a breakthrough last week when Bridgeport Police arrested 49-year-old Lorenzo Abrajan-Garcia.

However, the relief was short-lived for the grieving family.

"It's not fair and it's not right, and I'm so sad about it," said Angelica Pagan, reacting to the news that Abrajan-Garcia had already posted bond and was released.
