Suspect arrested after shots fired at Bridgeport police during response to street fight

Police said officers were dispatched around 12:10 a.m. to the 600 block of Grand Street for a report of an active street fight involving a suspect armed with a knife.

A suspect is in custody after allegedly firing multiple rounds at Bridgeport police officers early Tuesday.

Police said officers were dispatched around 12:10 a.m. to the 600 block of Grand Street for a report of an active street fight involving a suspect armed with a knife.

Responding officers encountered the suspect, who fled into an apartment, according to police.

The suspect then allegedly fired multiple rounds through an apartment door at the officers.

An officer returned fire, police said.

The suspect was taken into custody.

No officers or civilians were injured.

Police said there is no ongoing threat to the public.

The Connecticut Office of Inspector General and the Connecticut State Police Major Crimes Unit are investigating the officer-involved shooting.

The area of Grand Street and Catherine Street is blocked off until further notice.
