A Fairfield man is facing charges after a family altercation left another person injured, but police say the incident was not a stabbing.

Fairfield police responded Sept. 6 to a family violence incident involving two relatives who became involved in a physical altercation.

Police said 22-year-old Yuri Vahagn Anushyan punched the other individual in the face during the dispute.

The victim also suffered a laceration to the leg, but police said the injury was caused by yardwork equipment and was not the result of a stabbing.

The victim was transported to a hospital for treatment.

Anushyan was arrested and charged with third-degree assault and breach of peace.

He was held on a $2,500 bond and was scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court on Sept. 8.

Officials emphasized there was no significant or prolonged police presence and no threat to the public.
