'Power of art.' Holocaust memorial sculpture set to be unveiled at Fairfield University

News 12 is getting an exclusive look at a powerful Holocaust memorial about to be unveiled at Fairfield University.
"She Wouldn't Take Off Her Boots" honors five Jewish women who faced unimaginable terror and showed extraordinary defiance in the face of certain death.
The sculpture features a bronze camera that faces the women immortalized in metal.
Warren Lapa, president of Shoah Memorial Fairfield Connecticut, says the memorial is a teaching vessel.
"At first, we're using the power of art to capture the attention of people that come to visit it," Lapa says. "Once we have their attention, we believe that they're in a mode to want to learn more."
Paul Burger, chairman of Shoah Memorial Fairfield Connecticut, played a pivotal role in getting the sculpture to campus.
"We felt that this would be an ideal place to promote the story," Burger says, "To make sure the story of the genocide and the Holocaust doesn't get lost."
The dedication ceremony is Thursday night, followed by a ticketed lecture on the rise of antisemitism.
